If financial hardship has forced you to look at personal bankruptcy protection, we provide both required courses: The Credit Counseling session before you file and the Debtor Education course before your case is discharged.
Your pre-filing bankruptcy counseling session with CCC will include an evaluation of your personal financial situation, a discussion of alternatives to bankruptcy, and a personal budget plan. If your credit counselor identifies any alternatives to bankruptcy for you, they will discuss these options with you. Your counselor will also provide you with some direction that will lead to a healthy financial recovery and lifestyle if bankruptcy becomes your only option. All of your personal information is confidential and will not be shared with a third party. We do reserve the right to share information when required by law with your attorney if you are planning to file for bankruptcy protection with an attorney.
The cost of the pre-filing bankruptcy counseling course is $39 for individual or joint filers.
Once you have registered and completed the online tutorial and data entry, one of our staff members will contact you to schedule a brief follow-up phone conversation within 1 – 2 business days with one of our certified credit counselors to complete the counseling by phone. After the counseling by phone is complete, your certificate of counseling will be sent electronically to your attorney, or can be mailed to you if you are planning to file pro-se.
